Head coach John Harbaugh confirmed Friday that running back Cam Skattebo is likely to have a bigger role again. ESPN reporter Jordan Raanan also reported that Skattebo is expected to share carries with Tyrone Tracy Jr. against Houston.
Skattebo Learns From His Fumble
Skattebo had no rushing attempts in the Giants’ 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The 24-year-old spent most of the game on the bench. His playing time had already been reduced after he lost a fumble in overtime of the tie against the Washington Commanders.
It was Skattebo’s fifth fumble in his 13th NFL game. The running back said he had to learn from the situation. “I think I was taught a lesson,” Skattebo said. He took a step back, reflected on his behavior, and then worked on the areas that needed improvement in practice.
“I had to figure out why I did the things I did and what happened,” Skattebo said.
After that, he went to practice, corrected his mistakes, and worked on improving. Now, he is ready to play football again.

Giants Lean on Multiple Running Backs
Harbaugh emphasized that Cam Skattebo had always been an important part of the team’s plans for the season, regardless of the recent situation. The coach also praised the entire running back group’s preparation ahead of the road game in Houston.
“He was always destined to be a big part of our season. And he had a great week of practice—that goes for all the running backs,” Harbaugh said.
Against the Texans, Cam Skattebo is likely to share carries with Tyrone Tracy Jr. Devin Singletary is also an option. The Giants released veteran running back Najee Harris on Tuesday.
Skattebo now has an opportunity to return to the Giants’ rotation after seeing his role limited against New Orleans.
