Derwin James is headed to injured reserve and will miss at least four games for the Chargers. The team announced the move Saturday. James has not played since the loss to the Buffalo Bills on September 27. Head coach Jim Harbaugh said James suffered a setback during his rehabilitation and recovery.
The move to injured reserve comes as no surprise. James will now miss at least four games. His absence is especially significant for the Chargers, who enter their game against the Los Angeles Rams with a record of 0-6.
James has been selected to the Pro Bowl multiple times and is one of the most important players on the Chargers’ defense.
Chargers make roster moves
In response to the loss, the Chargers added cornerback Isas Waxter to the active roster. The team also elevated cornerback Kaiir Elam from the practice squad.

Waxter spent last season on the Chargers’ practice squad. Before that, he signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent. This season, he has appeared in two games via standard elevation.
Elam has started 19 of the 43 games he has played in during his career. He has spent time with Buffalo, Dallas and Tennessee.
The Chargers will also be without left guard Kayode Awosika, who is set to miss his fifth consecutive game with a leg injury. Defensive back Deane Leonard (concussion) and receiver Brenen Thompson (quadriceps and hamstring) have also been ruled out.
