Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy spent halftime in the blue medical tent rather than the locker room during the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to the CBS broadcast, he appeared to twist his ankle while leaving the field at the end of the first half.
McCarthy needed help getting to the tent. He returned to the sideline at the start of the second half and resumed coaching. The broadcast had not confirmed whether he was actually injured. We’ll have updates after the game.
The Steelers trailed 13-3 at halftime. Their offense struggled to score: veteran Aaron Rodgers had no touchdowns and one interception through 30 minutes.
The loss was especially frustrating for Pittsburgh: the Steelers entered the game as favorites against the struggling Buccaneers. Tampa Bay was also without starting quarterback Baker Mayfield, who was sidelined with a thumb injury. Rookie Jalon Daniels led the home team onto the field in his place.

Because he was receiving treatment, Mike McCarthy also missed the opportunity to address his team in the locker room before the second half. That is particularly unusual because the 62-year-old not only serves as the Steelers’ head coach but also calls the offensive plays.
