Blake Grupe injured his knee in his first game for the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The kicker was hurt while making a tackle on special teams against the Arizona Cardinals. The Rams announced that Grupe was questionable to return.
Grupe brought Devin Duvernay down near midfield after a 40-yard kickoff return. Just over five minutes had elapsed in the first quarter. After being examined in the medical tent, Grupe went straight back to the locker room.
Earlier, he had given the Rams the lead with a 44-yard field goal. He made the kick to put Los Angeles up 3-0 with 9:41 left in the first quarter.
Los Angeles signed Grupe from the New York Jets’ practice squad on Tuesday. He was brought in to replace Harrison Mevis, who had a potential game-winning field goal blocked and missed another attempt in the Rams’ 37-34 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night. Mevis made 5 of 9 field goals this season. He went just 3 of 7 from at least 40 yards.

After Grupe’s injury, punter Ethan Evans practiced kicks on the sideline. Grupe is the Rams’ fifth kicker in the past 57 games. Last season, he made all 11 of his field-goal attempts during a five-game stint with the Indianapolis Colts. He began his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints in 2023.
