Die Oakland Raiders reichten die sogenannten Relocation Papers am Donnerstag bei der NFL ein.
Oakland’s Besitzer Mark Davis benötigt für den Umzug nach Las Vegas zumindest die Zustimmung von 24 Teambesitzern. Die Abstimmung diesbezüglich wird im kommenden März beim Teambesitzer Meeting stattfinden.

Ähnlich wie auch San Diego, war die Stadt Oakland bis zum Schluss nicht in der Lage dem Team ein bespielbares Stadion zur Verfügung zu stellen.
Der Besitzer Davis bekannte sich bereits vor Monaten für einen Umzug nach Las Vegas und würde sogar 500 Millionen Dollar aus der eigenen Tasche dafür hinlegen. Das neue Stadion kostet gesamt 1,9 Milliarden Dollar.
Die Stimmung unter den Teambesitzern scheint den Umzugswunsch der Raiders zu unterstützen. Doch auch wenn die Raiders tatsächlich nach Las Vegas gehen, wird man mindestens noch zwei Jahre in Oakland verbleiben.
Oakland kämpft weiterhin um die Raiders
Trotz des nun offiziellen Ansuchens um Relocation will man in Oakland weiterhin an einer passenden Stadionlösung für die Raiders arbeiten. Libby Schaaf (Bürgermeister) und die Lott Group versuchen die Raiders mit aller Macht zu halten.
It’s no surprise that the Raiders have filed for relocation. Oakland welcomes the chance to show them and the NFL’s other owners why Oakland is the only home for the Raiders and always will be.
Our winning team of the Lott Group, the County, and my colleagues on the Oakland City Council has accomplished so much in the last few months. We’ve identified the mechanisms to responsibly finance public infrastructure improvements, we have in the Lott Group a private partner prepared to finance stadium construction, and we have an entitled site for a world-class NFL stadium and new development that enhances fan experience while invigorating East Oakland’s economy.
But this isn’t all Oakland has to offer. Oakland’s Raiders stadium will be on the most transit-accessible site in the nation, in the sixth-largest television market, and in one of the wealthiest and most innovative regions in the world. But above all else, Oakland has something no other city ever will – a die-hard fan base that is loyal and true to the Raiders and wants to see them stay here in Oakland where they were founded. Only Oakland brings the Raiders and the NFL a competitive stadium proposal, along with legacy and loyalty.

Der Plan sieht vor den Raiders ein Stadion mit 55.000 Sitzplätzen um 1,25 Milliarden Dollar in Oakland zu errichten. Die Finanzierung wird allerdings schwierig, immer sind noch über 100$ Millionen für die letzten Stadion-Upgrades (1995) unbezahlt. Die Stadt will den Raiders aber zumindest 242.000 m² an Land zur Verfügung stellen um ihr neues Stadion zu bauen.
