The NFL has suspended Buffalo Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson for one game. The 28-year-old spat toward a group of Las Vegas Raiders players on Sunday, including tight end Brock Bowers. The league announced the suspension Monday.

Gardner-Johnson was ejected in the second quarter for unsportsmanlike conduct. His suspension begins Oct. 26. He can return to the team on Nov. 2, after the Bills’ game against the Baltimore Ravens.

After his ejection, Gardner-Johnson apologized to his teammates.

“The gesture I made toward my opponent was inappropriate, unnecessary and does not reflect the respect I have for him or for this game,” he wrote in an Instagram Story, according to Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports.

“There is no excuse for my behavior, and I take full responsibility. No matter how emotional or intense the competition gets, I have to hold myself to a higher standard.”

C.J. Gardner-Johnson has now been ejected from a game twice in his NFL career. As a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, he had to leave a game against the Washington Commanders early after two personal fouls. As he left, he flipped off Commanders fans.
