Jack Campbell is headed to injured reserve following the horrific injury. Detroit made the roster move Saturday. The Lions also signed Nick Whiteside from the practice squad to the active roster. The team additionally elevated edge rusher Anthony Lucas and running back Jabari Small from the practice squad.
Campbell making progress after neck injury
Campbell was injured early in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s win over the Minnesota Vikings. After colliding with Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson, the linebacker lay face down on the field and initially did not move.
Medical personnel examined Campbell before placing him on a backboard and carefully lifting him onto a cart. Speaking about his condition later in the week, Campbell said he had full mobility in his lower body. Mobility in his upper body was also continuing to improve.
“I know I still have work to do, but I remain very optimistic,” Campbell said Wednesday in a statement released by the team. Lions coach Dan Campbell said Friday: “Jack continues to make progress, and that’s all great news.”
Lions make additional roster moves
By adding Whiteside to the active roster and elevating Lucas and Small, the Lions are also adjusting their personnel ahead of the upcoming game. Detroit has not yet provided further details on how long Campbell will be out.
Detroit enters its game against the Miami Dolphins with a 5-2 record. Miami is 1-6. The Lions visit the Dolphins on Sunday.
