Die Oakland Raiders versuchen aktuell ein kurzes Leasing des Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum's zu bekommen. Mit der Einigung zwischen den Los Angeles Rams und den San Diego Chargers letzte Woche, rückte ein potenzieller Umzug nach L.A. in weite Ferne.
Oakland's Bürgermeisterin Libby Schaaf, glaubt die Verlängerung des Coliseum für 2016 ist aktuell der wichtigste Punkt auf der Tagesordnung der Raiders.
‘It's my impression that that's the Raiders' priority, […] That's the communications I've heard from them. Of course I'm anxious to get them back to the table to talk about a new stadium. But I understand that their first focus is where they play next year.
Im Coliseum selbst geht man derzeit davon aus, dass die Raiders auch 2016 noch in Oakland und somit im Coliseum bleiben.
It's always more challenging when all you're trying to do is a one-year short-term lease […]These are more difficult to get done than a five- or 10- or 20-year lease when you're getting a longer commitment from all parties. Die Raiders werden somit vermutlich 2016 noch einmal im Coliseum spielen, doch was danach kommt weiß keiner. Mit dem $ 100 Millionen Zuschuss der NFL und den $ 200 Millionen, die sich die Raiders von der NFL leihen dürften, bleibt immer noch eine Lücke von $ 400 Millionen auf ein neues Stadion in Oakland.
Dazu kommt, dass auch die Athletics ein neues Stadion wollen/brauchen und dass die Wünsche der Raiders bzw. Athetics weit auseinander liegen.
